Getting Started

New to GestaltPath? Follow these steps to set up your account and start logging your child's utterances in under 5 minutes.

  1. Download the App

GestaltPath is available on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). Search "GestaltPath" or visit our download page.

  2. Create Your Account

Enter your email address and we'll send you a one-time password (OTP). No traditional password to remember — just tap the link or enter the code. You'll choose between a Parent/Caregiver or SLP role.

  3. Add a Child Profile

Tap "Add Child" and enter your child's first name or nickname, age, and any notes. GestaltPath uses this context to personalize AI coaching prompts and stage classifications.

  4. Log Your First Utterance

Tap the "+" button and type (or use voice-to-text) something your child said — exactly as they said it. GestaltPath's AI will classify the NLA stage, explain why, and offer coaching tips for what to model next.

  5. Explore Your Dashboard

Check the Progress tab to see stage distribution charts, the Coaching tab for daily prompts, and the Journal for a chronological record of all logged utterances.

Tip: Start by logging 3–5 utterances your child said today. The AI coaching improves with more data — even just a few entries help GestaltPath understand your child's current stage mix.

Feature Walkthroughs

GestaltPath includes six core features designed to work together. Here's a quick guide to each one.

Utterance Logging

Log what your child says via text or voice. Each entry is timestamped, tagged with context, and stored securely. You can add notes like setting, mood, or communication partner.

AI Stage Classification

Each utterance is analyzed by our three-tier AI cascade and classified into one of Marge Blanc's 6 NLA stages. You'll see a confidence score and a plain-language explanation of why.

Daily Coaching

Get personalized prompts each day based on your child's current stage mix. Coaching tells you what to model, how to expand gestalts, and activities to try at home.

Progress Tracking

Visual charts show NLA stage distribution over time. See how your child's language is evolving week-by-week with trend lines, milestone markers, and exportable reports.

Team Collaboration

Invite your child's SLP to your team so they can view logged utterances, add clinical notes, and adjust stage classifications. One team per account keeps things simple.

NLA Education Library

In-app articles explaining each NLA stage with real examples, video references, and links to Marge Blanc's published research. Learn at your own pace.

Frequently Asked Questions

General

Gestalt language processing (GLP) is a style of language development where children acquire language in "chunks" or whole phrases (gestalts) before breaking them down into smaller units. This contrasts with analytic language development, where children start with single words and build up.

GestaltPath is built on Marge Blanc's Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) framework, which identifies 6 stages of gestalt language development — from echoed scripts (Stage 1) to advanced, flexible grammar (Stage 6).

GestaltPath is designed primarily for parents and caregivers of gestalt language processors. It's also used by speech-language pathologists (SLPs) who want to collaborate with families via the team feature, monitor utterance logs remotely, and provide asynchronous guidance.

No. GestaltPath is a supplementary tool, not a substitute for professional speech-language therapy. Our AI provides educational coaching and stage classification, but it does not provide medical diagnoses or clinical treatment plans. We always recommend working with a licensed SLP alongside using GestaltPath.

Account & Privacy

Download GestaltPath from the App Store or Google Play, open the app, and enter your email address. We'll send a one-time password (OTP) — no traditional password needed. Tap the code or link, choose your role (Parent or SLP), and you're in.

Absolutely. GestaltPath uses AES-256 encryption at rest, TLS 1.3 in transit, and Supabase Row-Level Security (RLS) to ensure each family's data is completely isolated. We are COPPA-compliant and never sell or share your child's data with advertisers. Read our full Privacy Policy for details.

Yes. You can delete individual utterances, child profiles, or your entire account at any time from the Settings screen. Account deletion permanently removes all associated data within 30 days, including utterance logs, AI classifications, and team memberships. You can also email privacy@gestaltpath.com to request deletion.

Features & Usage

GestaltPath uses a three-tier AI cascade. Each utterance first goes through Gemini 3 Flash for fast initial classification. If confidence is below threshold, it escalates to Grok 4.1 Fast, and for edge cases, to Claude Opus 4.6 for the most nuanced analysis. The system considers the utterance text, context, your child's history, and NLA research to determine the most likely stage.

The AI provides a confidence percentage and a brief explanation. If you or your SLP disagree, you can override the classification — and this feedback improves future accuracy.

Yes! Tap the microphone icon on the logging screen to use voice-to-text transcription. The transcribed text is what gets stored and classified — audio recordings are processed on-device and are not stored on our servers unless you explicitly enable the optional audio journal feature.

Go to the Team tab and tap "Create Your Team" (or manage your existing team). Enter your SLP's email address to send an invitation. Once they accept, they'll have access to view your child's utterance logs, add clinical notes, and adjust stage classifications. Each account supports one team.

Yes. From the Progress tab, tap "Export Report" to generate a PDF summary of your child's utterance history, stage distribution, and progress trends. You can also export raw data as a CSV file. These reports are great for sharing with your SLP, school district, or early intervention team.

Billing

GestaltPath offers a 45-day free trial with full access to all features — no credit card required. After the trial, you can choose a monthly or annual subscription. Visit our pricing page for current plans.

You can cancel anytime from Settings > Subscription. Your access continues until the end of your current billing period. Subscriptions are managed through the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). For billing questions, email billing@gestaltpath.com.

Troubleshooting

Running into an issue? Here are solutions to the most common problems.

I didn't receive my login code

  • Check your spam/junk folder — the email comes from noreply@gestaltpath.com
  • Make sure you entered the correct email address (typos are the most common cause)
  • Wait 2 minutes before requesting a new code — email delivery can be delayed
  • If using a work or school email, your IT department may block automated emails. Try a personal email instead

The AI classified my child's utterance incorrectly

  • Tap the stage badge on the utterance card to see the AI's reasoning
  • Tap "Override" to select the correct stage — this helps train the AI for your child's profile
  • Add context notes (e.g., "This is a line from a TV show") to help the AI distinguish echoed scripts from original language
  • If your SLP is on your team, ask them to review and adjust — clinical overrides are weighted more heavily

The app is running slowly or crashing

  • Make sure you're running the latest version of GestaltPath (check for updates in your app store)
  • Restart the app completely (swipe it away from your app switcher, then reopen)
  • Clear the app cache: Settings > Storage > Clear Cache
  • If the problem persists, email us at support@gestaltpath.com with your device model and OS version

My SLP can't see my utterance logs

  • Confirm they accepted the team invitation (they should have received an email)
  • Check that they're logged into GestaltPath with the same email you invited
  • Go to Team > Members to verify their status shows "Active"
  • If they see "Pending," ask them to check their email for the invitation link

Voice-to-text isn't working

  • Make sure GestaltPath has microphone permissions (check your device Settings > Apps > GestaltPath)
  • Try speaking closer to the microphone in a quiet environment
  • Voice-to-text requires an internet connection — check your Wi-Fi or cellular data
  • If your child uses non-standard speech patterns, type the utterance manually for best accuracy
